From the psychedelic chord-patterns to the just-audible organ, it’s hard to escape comparisons with the Doors here. We’re all limited by the same twelve notes, and sometimes it’s pointless trying to reinvent the wheel, but this song is retro, retro and retro again.
The song itself is nicely-crafted and well-produced. The lyrics and guitar-licks walk a well-trodden sixties path, but the vocal-harmonies make for a very listenable record.
Fans of the Doors, the Kinks and the Byrds should take note. Everyone else should go out and buy the Twilight Sad instead.
