Hey we’re Madina Lake! And today we have the rare privilege of taking over FemaleFirst - meaning we get to hang out, write some reviews and talk about our new record, Attics To Eden which came out on Monday!

Thanks for having us and sending in your fan questions; here are our answers, we hope you enjoy our interpretation of FemaleFirst!

Love Madina Lake! Xx

Yvette Elonda - In which place do you not want to be caught dead and why.

Mateo; Oh, in the bathroom taking a crap… that would be really embarrassing!

Matt; Some nightclub in Cancun, Mexico. I went there once I passed out on the front lawn of this nightclub and someone had stolen my pants and shoes. It was just me in my underwear and t-shirt.

Dan; I’d probably say the Fox News building in New York City, I think that whole place is just the devil incarnated.

Nathan; It’s going to have to be some kind of message board forum, but I’m afraid to give a specific example because I don’t want to spread hate! Let’s just say, a message board full of miserable, hateful, impotent people.

Szonja Eszterhasb -Hiya I have a question for matt :D What do you use on your hair to make it so cool? wax or spray?

Haha, neither one really, I just sleep on it weird, I get it wet before I go to sleep, sleep on it and I wake up and it’s like Bam! Feel it…

(I checked his hair… it is magically fit!)

Chloe Todd - Hey guys My name is Chloe, I live in Australia, I met you at soundwave 08+09 and I was just wondering, what was your favourite place in Japan?

Mateo; I would be a bar in Osaka where it’s a fun, fun time. Once when I went there, everyone thought I was the guy in Linkin Park and all buying me free shots! I was like “Shit man, Madina Lake is huge here!”

Dan; Tokyo I guess. We’ve been to a lot of places but Tokyo is amazing in a million different ways.

Nathan; Tokyo has to be my favourite, with all due respect to the rest of Japan, we always stay in the ‘Times Square’ of Japan in Tokyo and it’s so magnificent.

Chrissy L - Hey guys, when will you be coming back to Australia?!

As soon as the weather will let us. Probably in the fall, we‘ve done these two festival tours so we‘re hoping to do a headlining club tour, but nothing is 100% confirmed yet. See you then!

Alex Summerscales - Hey you guys, what are your favourite albums that are out at the moment?

Mateo; I’m listening to The Dillinger Escape Plan, as well as M.I.A’s first album. I’m also liking the new Lily Allen record as well as Pussy Fur, the guy from Tool new project and Scott Weiland’s solo stuff as well as a lot of hip hop.

Matt; The latest Explosion In The Sky is awesome. Also, the new Depeche Mode album.

Dan; A record by Manchester Orchestra, I keep playing it in the van.

Nathan; Manchester Orchestra; I don’t remember album names but that’s a fantastic one that we found recently. And also, I’m loving Pussy Fur, it’s pretty badass.

Patricia Lazarte  - To Matthew: Do you sometimes wish you were the singer in the band and not your brother?

No, definitely not! Nathan just defaulted into the singer because I was the first one to pick up the bass!

Renee LaSalle - For anyone in the band who is a singer [not just Nathan (:] - What age did you first realize you could sing? Did it just come to you one day, or was it something you always loved to do? And have any of you had to go to vocal coaches to get better?

Mateo; When I first listened to Nirvana. I mean, I didn’t know it, that’s when I discovered it. I didn’t have a moment when I thought ‘This is what I want to do,’ I’ve never taken any lessons… I don’t play that good so…!

Matt; Aww, that’s sweet Renee, with Nathan and I it was basically like, we knew we wanted to be in a band before we knew anything else!

Nathan; I believe some people are born with the ability to sing and I’m trainable… and I wasn’t born with the ability to sing! I just practise a ton and I just about manage to pull it off! But to me, singing is more about the emotion of a voice and how it relates to the music and song, it’s not about perfection. So I think singing is more about the words and the energy.

Justy - I have a question for Madina Lake. What were your inspirations while writing 'Attics to Eden'? - Justine from Malta.

Mateo; I think musically it was NIN and Muse. We’re really inspired by my Chemical Romance and all their imagery and what they do, they inspire us to follow them.

Matt; The inspirations came from The River People (our audience) we knew they were expecting a lot so we wanted to deliver for them. We put a lot of pressure on ourselves to deliver for them. We have seen so many bands that look, sound and act the same, so we dove deeper and wanted to bring something more.

Nathan; Malta? Awesome! Wow, well , think we had a bit of animosity going into writing this record because on the first record we were often categorised as an emo or pop-punk band which we never saw ourselves as and we’re not huge fans of that genre, so after being misinterpreted on the first record, we really wanted to dig deeper into ourselves and dig our deeper ideas to prove that we were a bonafide rock bad who is very serious about our music, we ended up very happy with it!

If you can't see your question don't panic, because we had so many replies we had to spread it over fur pages, so check on;
