Having a huge interest in the cold war of the 80's, i was immediately drawn to the band name "Defend Moscow". My interest only heated up when I discovered that this electro-pop 4-piece is comprised of 4 Norwegian and one Parisian indie rock die hards.
I went through my phase of indie rock years ago, was eventually bored into an exhaustion of pretensions and "scenery" but have since come full circle. Defend Moscow do the 80s justice, delivering the New Order-stye dance-pop single "Die Tonight."
Based on a hypothetical apocalyptic psychological breakdown, this weighty the track ebbs and flow but never loses it's groove. As it may sound familiar musically, the lyrics are what really set Defend Moscow apart.
Offering a Garbage-esque groove and a female, male vocal partnering, Moscow will surely please those who have a eye for a modern day Depeche Mode. if somewhat cheesy, there is definitely an audience for Defend Moscow that will dance in delight, even if they're wearing parachute pants and perms.
I recommend the re-mixes on the back of this single as well. For me, they really bring out the programming at the foundation of the track and give it a nice rave dimension.
