Franz Ferdinand

Franz Ferdinand

The track kind of slides into your life on the down low.  Before you know it, "Feel the Pressure" grabs your neck and subtly sticks it to and fro with a sultry bass/programming groove that leaves plenty of space to let the track breathe.

I’m a fan.  takes a bit to get moving but I love Alex Kapranos' vocal stylings so I’m probably just anxious to get to it, and when I do I’m not disappointed. In today's over-auto-tuned and over-produced realm of  shiny music it's so good to hear some honest, straight up artistry here.

What Franz does best is use minimal parts for maximum impact, tiny electronic hooks that come in and out giving the track a huge dynamic, albeit with the same beat throughout.

Sometimes you feel like you're in outer space and sometimes you think you're in a fog covered room with lasers, disco balls, and heavy drugs. My kind of party...  if only partaken vicariously. Maybe.

Anyhow, "Blood" is a 'dub' version of this year's TONIGHT: Franz Ferdinand.  An ambitious and risky endeavour perhaps but they pull it off.  And if you ask me it proves the quality of these songs.

They can be interpreted several ways and maintain their originality and appeal.  Blood is a record you can (and I will) put on in the tour bus or at a party and just let it ride.  Unfortunately that's a rarity these days.
