At first listen I thought I had travelled back in time to the year 1999 or so, a bad time in this particular instance, where I was at one of those awkward parties after an awkward school dance, where a song called “Blue”, or “I’m blue” or something along those lines was one of those hit songs that plagued those sort of situations, one of the ones you just couldn’t get away from as hard as you tried…
Anyone who remembers this song could easily be as put off as I was during the intro of this track, but luckily “sugar” quickly abandons it’s scary similarity to that “song” as the groove, steady mellow piano chords and verse from Flo Rida begin to build the song into something much more funky.
It although it isn’t anything that I haven’t heard before, it feels good and I can imagine it would do well on your play list as the background for the next time you and friends decide to get crunk…
Actually I just heard the lyrics say something like this “ call me your sugar, this candy’s got you sprung”… I think that’s pretty much all the insight you need into this song to make your own opinion right there.
