The Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) is getting better and better, with movies such as Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness and series like Moon Knight releasing this year (2022), the studio has a lot on its plate.
Despite fans thinking that the MCU couldn’t, or wouldn’t, get more exciting than 2019’s Avengers: Endgame, Marvel Studios has proven that they have a lot more up their sleeve, on both the big and small screens.
Marvel has done very well with its Disney+ releases, the first of which being WandaVision, which debuted in January of 2021; this series received spectacular reviews, making fans even more excited for what’s to come.
One show that is on the way that brings even more new characters into the MCU, is Ms. Marvel, which focuses on the superhero Kamala Khan (Iman Vellani).
Despite the series intending to release this year, fans haven’t received that much information about it, save for some casting decisions.
Speaking of casting, the newest member to join the Ms. Marvel cast is Anjali Bhimani, an American actress who is perhaps best-known for voicing Symmetra in popular video game Overwatch.
Ms. Marvel follows Kamala, a 16-year-old Pakistani American who adores Captain Marvel. Sadly, the show has been delayed due to the global pandemic, but it is now on track to release in the summer of this year.
Bhimani has recently been cast in the show, which is not only great news for the series itself, but for audiences as it shows that progress is being made and production is moving along.
This isn’t Bhimani’s first Marvel-related role, however, as she also played a role in Marvel’s Runaways, a Hulu original that ran from 2017 to 2019.
The actress did, however, only play a small role within Runaways, meaning that the casting choice is most likely unrelated.
Runaways hasn’t been brought into the MCU, so this could mean that the show is not cannon, and not part of the main MCU storyline.
It has been said that Bhimani enjoys many ‘nerdy’ things, so may prove to be an excellent casting choice for the forthcoming show.
Ms. Marvel is expected to debut on Disney+ later in 2022.
I am personally very excited to see Ms. Marvel when it releases, as Kamala Khan seems like a wonderful character and a great centre for her very own story.
The MCU’s TV series have all been incredible so far, with my favourites being WandaVision and Hawkeye; Marvel have dominated the small-screen, and their next series, Moon Knight, has also grabbed my attention.
I can’t wait to meet Kamala, as she is a character I’m unfortunately unfamiliar with. I adore how she isn’t a white character, and the fact that the show follows a female hero like her is something I cannot wait to see.
