It’s looking like bad news for Johnny Hallyday fans as the French singer is unlikely to be well enough to begin his planned tour in the New Year, according to reports.

The 66 year old emerged from an artificial coma on Monday after suffering complications from botched back surgery for a herniated disc he underwent in Paris.

He is showing good progress but a spokesperson from his insurance company has announced that it's almost certain the first few dates of his upcoming French tour, due to start in January, are unlikely to happen.

Francois Chiesa tells the online edition of Le Point news magazine, "It is now certain that the first concerts in 2010 will not take place."

Asked when Hallyday's tour would go ahead, he added, "I don't know... we will see."
