Harry Redknapp "worried" about his wife when he went on 'I'm a Celebrity...Get Me Out of Here.'
The 75-year-old football legend has been married to Sandra Harris since 1967 and has sons Mark, 52, and Jamie, 49, with her but became concerned when he took part in - and eventually won - the 2018 series of the jungle-based reality show in Australia because she had just recovered from sepsis and it was the first time she was "pushedinto the limelight."
He said: "Sandra used to work in a hairdresser’s on Saturdays when I was playing football, which was a good thing. It meant we didn’t have to talk about the game afterwards and we could enjoy a quiet night together. We’ve never really been interested in big parties but love going out for a nice dinner. Sandra only really got pushed into the limelight when I did 'I’m a Celebrity,' I was worried about her when I was going in because she had just recovered from sepsis, so when I saw her in the jungle it was very emotional."
The former West Ham manager teamed up with his wife to put pen to paper for their memoir 'When Harry Met Sandra' and explained that the inspiration to write the book was to raise funds for charity but joked that he is "too old" to run a marathon now and has "never won a penny" on TV game shows as he mused that he has been "very lucky" in life.
He told The Sunday Times: "We decided to write a book together as a way to raise some funds for charities. I’ve done a lot of TV shows trying to win them money but never won a penny, and I’m too old now to run a marathon. When you’ve got a big family, there’s always some problem to overcome. It’s like being a football manager every day, but we’ve been very lucky. We had nothing growing up, so we really appreciate what we’ve got. I go to the races at Ascot and wonder what my nan would think seeing me in a box."
