Greg Rutherford has opened about his "horribly painful" 'Dancing on Ice' injury, which saw him tear his abdominal muscles and herniate, ahead of undergoing surgery on Thursday (21.03.24).
The former Olympian was forced to withdraw from the 'Dancing On Ice' final on the morning of the spectacle after he suffered an injury in rehearsals, and he has now revealed he "effectively gave [himself] a C-section" when he attempted to leap through the legs of pro ice-skaters Brendyn Hatfield and Colin Grafton.
Speaking on his Instagram Story, he said: "Today is surgery day. Loads of people have been asking, 'What happened?'
"I've been a bit busy and obviously just recovering from the initial injury before I had the surgery that I hadn't got round to really talking about it.
"Long story short, I leapt through the legs of Brendyn and Colin and managed to tear all of my abs as well as herniate. So I effectively gave myself a C-section.
"So yes, it was horribly painful. It needs to be operated on today and then I'll be properly on the mend. It was very painful, pretty horrible."
A couple of days after missing out on the final - which was won by Ryan Thomas - due to the injury, the 37-year-old admitted he was still feeling "very sore and very tired" as he continued his recovery.
In an Instagram post, Greg said: "Seen a specialist today, I've got some scans tomorrow, and then I will know more about what's going on, and what's happening.
"I'm very sore and very tired so I'm going to get an early night tonight. But again I cannot believe the amount of lovely messages I've had so thanks very much. I'll update everybody once I know what the next step is. This is grim."
