Esmee is a female RnB singer with a good handle on the vocal acrobatics you’ve come to expect of modern US female artists.
The executive producer on the record is the formidable Justin Timberlake, and his touch is all over Esmee’s music, if you’ll excuse the slightly suggestive remark.. It’s by the book stuff, the beats are funky and this is pop music for the masses.
The immediate reaction from the girls who heard the fauz attitudinously entitled first track, Outta Here, was literally : “I’d dance to that if I were drunk..” You can’t say fairer than that – or more than that - about Esmee, really.
Her songs are written by the big songwriting teams and collaborators who brought you hit after US hit – Ryan Tedder, the writer of Apologise for One Republic and of Bleeding Love for Leona Lewis, has written Victim on this sampler.
All in all, nothing offensive here – all very simple pop RnB stuff, but nothing deep either. Esmee is pretty – has a voice – and a celebrity endorsement. She’s no Beyonce, but I reckon she’ll go far.
If you want to dance and singalong when you’re drunk – this is the girl for you.
