Mischievous Beatrix Potter character Peter Rabbit has been entertaining audiences for decades, and now the adventurous hero will be making his way to the big screen to star in his own contemporary comedy. Of course, he’s not the only one making his way from the pages of children’s books to Hollywood, with other iconic characters from the series also stepping into the spotlight. One of those is Mopsy – one of the sisters from a trio that also includes Flopsy (Margot Robbie) and Cotton-tail (Daisy Ridley) – who’s voiced by Elizabeth Debicki. You can find out a little bit more about the character in a newly-released video below:
“Mopsy is eldest of the triplets,” teases Debicki in the clip. “She’s smart and feisty. She’s an adorable one-foot tall rebel.” Hilarity looks set to ensue as she and her sisters, along with a cast of infectious and compelling characters bring a brand new Peter Rabbit story to fans.
The movie will see Peter’s feud with Mr. McGregor (Domhnall Gleeson) taken to greater heights than ever before, as the pair battle it out for the affections of the animal-loving neighbour X, played by Rose Byrne. Their journey takes them to the Lake District and London, with Matt Lucas and Sia also starring, voicing Benjamin Bunny and Mrs. Tiggy-Winkle respectively. Sam Neill also joins the cast, as an ‘Older Mr. McGregor’.
Whilst the announcement and first trailer for Peter Rabbit was marred with a little bit of controversy, thanks to a vocal portion of the character’s die-hard fan base who said the film was sapping the magic and classic personality out of Potter’s original stories, a British trailer was later released to much better reactions.
Audiences will vote with their wallets when Peter Rabbit comes to cinemas across the globe. We have a feeling that despite the cautious nature of some past fans, it could be a big box office hit.
Peter Rabbit is officially released in the UK on March 16, 2018.
