With just over a week to go until the release of Peter Rabbit in cinemas across the UK, the promotional game for the film has been stepped up by those behind-the-scenes, and two brilliant new clips from the movie have been released. In the first, Mopsy’s got a secret, whilst in the second the cast of colourful characters get a little “Matchy Matchy”. You can watch both of the scenes before the official release below:
James Corden takes on the role of the titular hero in Peter Rabbit, lending his voice to the iconic Beatrix Potter character and starring amongst some brilliant A-list stars.
In the film, Peter will elevate his feud with Mr. McGregor (Domhnall Gleeson) to greater heights than ever before, as their fight for control over his coveted vegetable garden rages on. With the warm-hearted animal lover next door (played by Rose Byrne) also working her way into the hearts of both Mr. McGregor and Peter, their battle will see them go to the Lake District and London.
The cast also includes Fayssal Bazzi as Mr. Tod, Sia as Mrs. Tiggy-Winkle, Colin Moody as Benjamin Button, Margot Robbie as Flopsy, Elizabeth Debicki as Mopsy, and Daisy Ridley as Cotton-Tail. Will Gluck serves as director on the film, having written the screen story alongside Rob Lieber.
Critical response to Peter Rabbit has been incredibly mixed to this point, though there are more positive reviews than negative ones on reviews aggregate website Rotten Tomatoes. There, it currently sits with a score of 59%, whilst audiences give it a slightly better score of 60%.
It’s going to be interesting to see just how the UK responds to the film when it makes its debut here, but there has already been controversy thanks to a scene that saw characters throwing blackberries at a character who suffers from an allergy to the fruit. It led to Sony Pictures admitting they should “not have made light of Mr. McGregor being allergic to blackberries” and said they regretted not being more sensitive to the issue. Whether or not the scene appears in the UK cut of the movie remains to be seen.
Peter Rabbit is released in movie theatres in the UK from March 16, 2018.
