Despicable Me 2 has stormed to the top of the U.S. box office trampling The Lone Ranger in the process.
Despicable Me 2 and The Lone Ranger were set to go head to head this weekend for the #1 spot - but there really was no contest as the animation movie came out on top.
The sequel to the 2010 film took a whopping $82.5 million in its opening weekend to see off all of the competition.
The Lone Ranger, which sees Johnny Depp and director Gore Verbinski reunite, had to settle for second as it took a rather disappointing $29.4 million.
Comedy The Heat fell one place to three while Monsters University slipped three places to four after spending just s single week at number one.
The top five was rounded out by zombie film World War Z as the Brad Pitt film fell two place from last week's number three.
White House Down fell out of the top five as it dropped two places to six. Man of Steel was also down two at seven.
Kevin Hart: Let Me Explain was the third and final new entry on the top ten this week as it opened at number eight.
This Is The End and Now You See Me were both three place fallers as they finished the weekend at nine and ten.
