This week has seen a whole host of exciting film-related stories, from Tom Hanks reuniting with the director of Forrest Gump for a new project, to casting decisions for the upcoming Willy Wonka prequel. Read about all this, and more, below.
Trailer for new Adam Sandler movie has landed
Adam Sandler is well-known for starring in some goofy films, such as Grown Ups and Happy Gilmore; however, his upcoming project appears to be of a slightly different ilk.
Yesterday (February 18th, 2022), Netflix released the trailer for Hustle, a new movie that will focus on Bo Cruz’s underdog story.
The film has a brilliant cast lined up that includes over a dozen former and current NBA stars, and is rumoured to release in June this year (2022).
Despicable Me 4 gets release date
Despicable Me, a rather popular film franchise that centres on Gru (Steve Carell), a man with evil intentions that always seem to turn into acts of kindness, is set to make a grand return.
The fourth film in the franchise is set to release in July of 2024, which will mark 14 years since the original, which came out in 2010.
Not much has been revealed in the way of a plot for Despicable Me 4, but at least fans can expect the return of some excellent actors, and the same goofy comedy that made the other films so enjoyable.
Tom Hanks reunites with director of Forrest Gump for new project
Tom Hanks is known for starring in many exceptional films, such as Saving Private Ryan, The Green Mile and, of course, 1994’s Forrest Gump.
Hanks will be teaming up with Forrest Gump director Robert Zemeckis once again, this time to work on a movie adaptation of a graphic novel titled Here.
Here will focus on one single room and will depict the events of the large number of people who live in it for thousands of years, from deep into the past to far into the future.
The Contractor film releases trailer starring Chris Pine
Two days ago, on February 17th, 2022, Paramount released the trailer for The Contractor, starring Star Trek actor Chris Pine.
The Contractor is set to follow Pine’s character, a soldier who has joined a clandestine military group in order to support his family.
Pine has starred in both comedy and action films, making him a great choice for a film such as this one; The Contractor will release on April 1st, 2022.
Director of Ratatouille developing new movie
Brad Bird, director of beloved Disney/Pixar movie, Ratatouille, is in talks with Skydance Animation to create a new film based on his own script.
The film is set to be an original sci-fi adventure, which already sounds exciting. The official title for the feature is Ray Gunn, and will reportedly blend together the idea of detective novels and the ‘cleanliness’ of Buck Rogers comics.
Bird has helmed both The Incredibles and its sequel, which is the highest-grossing animated movie of all time, so there are high hopes for Ray Gunn.
Kill Bill 3 gets update from Uma Thurman
Star of the Kill Bill franchise, Uma Thurman, has given an update on how likely a third film is to enter the franchise.
It’s not good news, unfortunately; Thurman stated in an interview with Variety that she doesn’t see a third movie “immediately on the horizon.”
This leaves fans with the thought that there may never be a Kill Bill 3, which works well for those who believe Kill Bill 2 had the perfect ending, but not so well for those who think the franchise has more to give.
Timothée Chalamet spotted filming Willy Wonka prequel
A behind-the-scenes (BTS) video via Twitter shows Dune star Timothée Chalamet in the titular role of Willy Wonka himself in the upcoming musical movie.
Wonka is set to be a prequel that focuses on none other than the candy extraordinaire, Willy Wonka, in his earlier days of his career.
The film is set to release in March next year (2023), and Chalamet definitely seems to fit the bill as the iconic candy creator.
