Yesterday kicked off Sparkle Week over in New York and what a fantastic idea that is! We all love a good sparkle after all!
Sparkle Week is the cities attempt to boost the jewellery economy and diamond district, New York Magazine reports, but we thought we would use it to celebrate all things shiny, sparkly and sequined in fashion.
Forget what you thought you knew about sequins, they are not just for the party season anymore. Thanks to designers such as Christian Dior, Vivienne Westwood and Matthew Williamson using sequins on the spring/summer catwalks it is now perfectly acceptable to sparkle in the sunnier months. Even better as the light can catch them!
The key is to use lighter coloured sequins, Matthew Williamson went for pastel coloured ones on dresses to give the look a softer finish perfect for Spring.
We told you last month how sequined tuxedos were going to be big news thanks to Derek Lam and since then more celebrities have caught on to the trend including Whitney Port and June Sarpong (she's J-Lo's style icon don't you know!)
If you just can't handle sequins in the warmer months then you can still sparkle, you just need some blinging jewellery. Big diamond style studs, (Not real of course, we are in a recession after all!) or bauble style drop earrings are the perfect way to sparkle subtlety.
So slap it all on girls and make sure you sparkle every day this week, those New Yorkers can't have all the fun after all!
