Tom Ford will release a new collection of luxury sneakers this autumn.

The 52-year-old designer has created a selection of high and low-top models, available in leather (seven colours) and velvet (five colours) with white rubber soles, which are set to go on sale exclusively at the Tom Ford stores in Dallas, Los Angeles, New York, Las Vegas and Chicago in the United States later this year.

Each luxury shoe is manufactured in an Italian workshop where cobblers spend a week polishing and stitching the footwear after which the leather is "rested" for 10 days.

The cobblers then take up to three days polishing the shoes, which are priced between $690 and $990, reports WWD.

Although the collection won't be available to buy until autumn, the designer previously unveiled the sneakers during his London Collections: Men show in January this year.

He explained at the time, 'I have resisted the tennis shoe', adding that he had finally decided to release the collection after figuring out how to make the casual footwear his own.

It also doesn't help that big brands like Gucci and Lanvin have created luxury trainers that have proved a hit with men everywhere.

Tom will be honoured for his contribution to the fashion industry when he receives the Council of American Fashion Designers' biggest honour, the Geoffrey Beene Lifetime Achievement Award at the CFDA Awards on June 2.
