Gucci's Alessandro Michele will be honoured at the British Fashion Awards later this month.
The designer will receive the prestigious International Fashion Designer of the Year award from the British Fashion Council at a ceremony at the London Coliseum on November 23.
Speaking about why they chose Alessandro, Natalie Massenet, chairman of the British Fashion Council, told WWD: "Alessandro Michele is a phenomenon at Gucci. His exciting, eclectic aesthetic has made an overnight impact on global fashion trends. It is not just that he has made the brand covetable and the product so desirable. He has also reinvigorated the retail experience bringing back playfulness and magic to the flagship store. This is a man who has his customer in his heart and celebrates them."
The designer told the Daily Telegraph that he was "honoured and still a little incredulous" about the award.
He took over as creative director of the Italian label in January and previously worked for Gucci under Tom Ford.
He explained: "London's where my career at Gucci began. My first office was in Tom's studio. I'm obsessed with British culture, past and present. I am deeply in love with this country and its gorgeous history."
