Celebrating the launch of Mafia: Definitive Edition today (September 25th, 2020), 2K have teamed up with iconic British boxing promoter Eddie Hearn, to get his take on the built-from-the-ground-up remake of the original game.
See Hearn's take on the no-holds barred brawling as he reacts to left hooks, "Glasgow kisses" and gangsters with "chins like Arturo Gatti" in the hilarious video below:
“I thought the world of boxing was tough, with negotiations and dealing with bad people. But this Mafia game is on another level!” commented Eddie. “Some of the greatest stories ever told are all about family, the ‘business,’ and struggling against the tide. Think of any classic gangster film that makes you feel like the Don. Mafia: Definitive Edition lets you live it!”
Developed by Hanger 13 and published by 2K, this comprehensive remake is completed with an updated script that features rich new dialogue, expanded backstories, additional cutscenes, all-new gameplay sequences and more, with a re-recorded orchestral score and other additional enhancements also included.
The team were hoping to deliver an experience that allowed them to remember their first impression of the Mafia game, but elevate it to another level so that returning players would have a reason to come back and go through the game all over again.
It's the final addition to the Mafia Trilogy, which also includes a remastered edition of Mafia II and the latest release in the series, Mafia III.
Now that Hearn's got a relationship with 2K, many will be wondering if the publishers will be pushing for a boxing-style game so that even more sporting fans can get involved with their range of games.
Mafia: Definitive Edition is available now on PlayStation® 4, Xbox One, Steam, and the Epic Games Store. The game is rated PEGI 18. The Mafia Trilogy - which includes the rebuilt original game along with a remastered copy of Mafia II and the reintroduction of Mafia III - is also available now.
