Earlier this week (beginning December 13th, 2021), Ubisoft announced that the latest instalment in the Assassin’s Creed franchise, Assassin’s Creed: Valhalla, will be getting yet another expansion, titled Dawn of Ragnarök, which will be released in March of 2022.
The expansion will be available as a separate purchase for anyone who owns the main game. As well as this exciting news, Assassin’s Creed crossover stories, featuring both Eivor and Kassandra, who is the main protagonist (if you select the female character) of Assassin’s Creed: Odyssey, are available now; both stories are free.
Many Assassin’s Creed fans have mixed opinions on Valhalla, as while it is an excellent game for the most part, some say that it has lost some of the pivotal points that make the franchise what it is.
However, the first two DLCs (downloadable content) seemed to impress and entertain, with The Siege of Paris being the most recent, and Wrath of the Druids being the first. The new stories saw Eivor travel to Ireland and Paris, and take on new enemies whilst forging new alliances.
Dawn of Ragnarök will see Eivor lean into their destiny as Odin, the Norse god of Battle and Wisdom, following the many visions the character has during the main game. The dwarven kingdom of Svartalfheim is falling apart, and in the middle of the disarray, Odin’s son Baldr, has been taken prisoner by Surtr, a formidable fire giant.
In the forthcoming expansion, players will have the opportunity to utilise new and divine powers as they carry on the legendary Viking saga by setting off on a journey of desperation, through a magical, mythical world.
Every player who buys Dawn of Ragnarök between December 13th, 2021 and April 9th, 2022, will receive the Twilight Pack, and will have instant access to the main game. This bonus includes the Dellingr's Envoy Raven Skin, the Havardr Lynx Mount, the Twilight Gear Set and the Algurnir Dane Axe Weapon.
While Valhalla might not be the best game to display the Creed in which the Assassins operate, it is a genuinely fun RPG title, that allows you to travel through England as Eivor (male or female), a strong-willed Viking who commands authority wherever they go.
The main game allows you to make choices that change the fate of certain characters, and even dictate who Eivor falls in love with. The game may be controversial, but a new expansion will no doubt pique the interest of fans.
The Assassin’s Creed: Valhalla expansion, Dawn of Ragnarök, will be available from March 10th, 2022.
