Cats have started more than 100 house fires in South Korea for the past three years.
Officials from the Seoul Metropolitan Fire and Disaster Department have revealed that felines caused a total of 107 house fires between January 2019 and November 2021.
The majority of the incidents are believed to have been caused by the animals after they switched on electric stoves in kitchens with their paws.
Nearly half of the blazes took place when their owners were out of the house, the report also revealed.
Fire department official Chung Gyo-chul said: "Cat-started fires are continuing to be reported these days. We advise pet owners to pay extra attention to fire risks."
Cat owners have been advised to remove flammable objects from the stove and have also been encouraged to use electric stoves that come with an automatic lock function to reduce the risk of fire.
