Derren Brown tricked his brain to like salami

The 53-year-old illusionist and mentalist was forced to eat a salami pizza - which he hated - after his university friends ordered one, but after convincing his head that he liked the food by saying "mmm" repeatedly, he thought it was "lovely".

After realising the brain-tricking method worked, he has since applied it to other things that he despises.

He told comedians Ed Gamble and James Acaster on their 'Off Menu' podcast: "I kind of thought, 'I'll have to trick myself that I like the salami.

"So, I did this thing, as I was eating it, in my head, I was going, 'Mmm, mmm, mmm,' and not giving myself a moment to go, 'Hang on, where's the salami taste that I don't like?'

"It worked, and it was lovely. I started doing it with everything and wiped out things I didn't like by going: 'Mmm' in my head."
