Karine Jackson has long been an advocate of organic colouring and hairdressing and her west end salon is the go-to venue for ethical values without compromising on performance or trend.
Aussie-born Karine is a former London Hairdresser of the Year and a previous winner of the Most Wanted Hair Trend award and she excels at amazing colour, whether it’s an ice white blonde, a lived-in balayage, a bright pink or a denim blue. Her salon is also the first in London to receive the Sustainable Salon Certificate, but to Karine, ethical values don’t come at the expense of fashion or a luxury hair experience.
Karine is now offering Vegan hair services, meaning Vegans can enjoy high-end hairdressing with everything from the colour and products to the cookies and drinks (almond milk is available for tea in coffee) meeting their requirements. She tells us, “I’ve been using a Vegan range for nearly 15 years now but it was only when a new stylist started who was Vegan that I realized this wasn’t enough. That’s why we introduced the full vegan appointment. Visiting the salon can be a chore for vegans as some products contain honey or milk for example, and the stylists might not even know whether they’re vegan or not, or even consider it an issue. Our team knows exactly what to use on our vegan clients, and we also have vegan drinks and snacks.”
We use Vegan-friendly brands Organic Colour Systems and Unite; Organic Colour Systems display the PETA Cruelty-Free and Vegan logos and also sponsor Greenpeace. As an added bonus, Organic Colour Systems uses the lowest possible amount of PPD (the ingredient that makes hair colour permanent, necessary to cover greys, but also most associated with allergic reactions) and is free from ammonia. The products are made in Hampshire so boast a low carbon footprint and the company refuses to trade with countries or businesses that insist on or endorse animal testing.
Karine says, “Veganism is a fast-growing way of life with the majority of UK vegans living in London, so it’s a no-brainer to me that we make this a simple service with no room for error in the salon. Clients seek us out for this service, there’s a huge demand, and Veganuary has definitely pushed it further into the spotlight. The more clients ask for a certain service, the more likely it is that salons will deliver it, so push your salon to know and be accountable for the ingredients they’re using in their products.”
Vegan cut and colour: £90 - £ 257 approx / Vegan colour: £62 - £167 approx
All Vegan services include complimentary cookies and drinks.
