Our sitcom list

Our sitcom list

Sitcoms will always hold a place in all of our hearts. Whether you're lounging about looking for something to watch and happen to stumble across one, or if you're a die-hard fan, you're guarenteed to find one that you relate to and subsequently find hilarious.

We've put together a list of five of our favourite sitcoms. We hope you enjoy as much as we do!

5. How I Met Your Mother

The pure hilarity of Barney Stinson is enough to bring this sitcom into the top 5. Oh, that and the mystery of the mother.

If you don't watch How I Met Your Mother, you should. It's the typical sitcom set-up: a group of 20 something friends and their lives, their apartments, and their favourite hang-out. Although it may sound like you've seen it all before, there's a twist. The main character, Ted, starts every episode talking to his kids in the year 2030. The show is ultimatley a reflection of his life, as he tells them how he met their mother. The show has had 8 seasons, and we still aren't sure who exactly she is, although recent episodes have given us a few clues.

The show features 2 girls and 3 boys, but we assume that the mother will fill the female gap in later seasons. The brilliant writing, and the hilarious quirks of suit-mad 'bro' Barney, and more feminine-than-he-should-be-for-a-male Marshall keeps the show fresh, and makes us want it in our top five.

4. Modern Family

This mockumentary style sitcom features Jay Pritchett who lives with his Columbian wife Gloria, their baby, and Gloria's son Manny. The show also features his Daughter Claire, and her family, and his son Mitchell and his family.

Each character in the show has a different personality to the next, often leading to hilarious fall-outs and subsequent emotional make-ups. Characters to look out for include Mitchell's partner, Cam. He has very dramatic tendencies, and odd hobbies that show themselves throughout the show. Also keep your eye out for Manny, Gloria's son who is old beyond his years. Manny is shown to a be a romantic, and drinks coffee and has heart-to-hearts with the women in the show about the problems in their marriages.

We love this mockumentary, and its its hilarious family hijinx makes it earn it's place at number four.

3. Scrubs

This hospital based comedy stars Zach Braff as JD, the lovable trainee doctor.

The show is a commentary of his life, and generally shows us what goes on inside his head. It also features his three friends: brother-like Turk, his wife and hopital receptionist Carla, and on/off girlfriend Elliott, along with a host of other reccurrring characters.

As well as being stupidly funny, the show also feature serious parts that often bring a tear to your eye. If you don't watch Scrubs, you should start. The way it makes us uncontrollably laugh and cry means it takes 3rd place.

2. New Girl

This sitcom has only just reached the end of it's second season, but its already found a place in our hearts.

Zooey Deschanel depicts ditzy Jess in this simple apartment based comedy. Main characters also include room mates Schmidt, Winston and Nick, and best friend Cici.

We love watching Schmidt's OCD and weird sexual adventures, as well as Nick and Jess' will they won't they relationship. Good news that it's been renewed for a 3rd season, because we don't want it to end!

1. Friends

The friends finale was one of the most watched episodes in history, so no wonder it's topped our top 5 sitcoms.

We're sure there's no need to recap the storylines of Ross, Rachel, Joey, Phoebe, Chandler and Monica, but lets just give a few reason why it's come in at number 1.

We won't go into detail, but our highlights are; Ross and Rachel's relationship, Monica and Chandler's wedding, Ross' leather pants (and spray tan and teeth), Phoebe's paintings, and Joey in general.

Although it ended nearly ten years ago, it's still our favourite, and we're sure you agree that it won't be beaten.
