The Simpsons

Today marks the 24th anniversary of The Simpsons hitting screens on FOX in America.

Yes - 24 years ago today, back in 1989, the very first episode of The Simpsons was broadcast to over 26 million Americans, with not a single hint as to how gigantic the monumental franchise would become.

Fast forward to today, and the yellow citizens of Springfield are one of the most recognized cast of characters on the planet, with new episodes being made to this very day.

Breaking records, pumping out merchandise, books and comics as well as a major motion picture that grossed over half a billion dollars worldwide, and a huge gaming application on mobile phone devices, the franchise is certainly one that's likely to go down in history and remain prominent in decades to come.

The Simpsons movie was a major success

It's those little things that really matter with a comedy like this - when you relate every 'Doh!' you hear to Homer Simpson, and every strand of blue hair you see to his beloved wife Marge. When you tell others in a squabble to eat your shorts, and when any sax solo is immediately compared to Lisa's amazing skills in the series' opening titles.

What The Simpsons has managed to do is capture personalities we all know and love (or in some cases, despise) in our real day-to-day lives, and put them on a screen for us all to laugh at. In doing so, they've snatched the relatability factor needed to be a success story, and we can't wait to see what's next for the legendary series, and Simpsons family.
