Starring Melissa Benoist as Kara Danvers/Kara Zor-El and the title character Supergirl, CBS have revealed the brand new costume for the role ahead of production on the pilot episode, which began this past weekend.
Designed by three-time Oscar winner Colleen Atwood, her previous work has seen her design the costumes for Arrow and The Flash, and she has motion picture credits in some big movies including Memoirs of a Geisha, Chicago and Alice in Wonderland.
Speaking of the new costume she's created, Colleen Atwood said: "In designing Supergirl, I wanted to embrace the past, but more importantly, thrust her into the street-style action hero of today."
Escaping amid the destruction of her home planet Krypton, Kara Zor-El has been hiding her powers since arriving on Earth, but at age 24 she's deciding to embrace her abilities and become the hero her life was destined for. Sharing the powers with her cousin however could see the two go down very different paths.
Executive producers and writers Greg Berlanti, Ali Adler and Andrew Kreisberg will bring us the Supergirl pilot, along with executive producer Sarah Schechter and director Glen Winter.
Supergirl is produced by Berlanti Productions in association with Warner Bros. Television, based on the characters from DC Comics.
