Stephen Amell took to the stage at this year’s CW Upfronts presentation to announce that DC Comics character Batwoman would be making her Arrowverse debut, in the universe’s next big crossover event. The Arrow actor had been teasing some big news, but this is more than anyone could have predicted.
The CW’s President, Mark Pedowitz confirmed the news, saying that this would be the first time the character would appear “on any screen”.
Pedowitz is correct. Despite Batwoman making her comic books debut in 1956, she’s never been on the big or small screen. She’s got a huge following right now, and made history when she became one of DC’s first openly gay characters.
Seeing the Arrowverse continue to expand just shows that The CW are planning big for the future. There are now even rumours that this could be the Launchpad for Batwoman to get her own series on the network, though we wouldn’t want to make quite a huge prediction just yet!
When announcing the news, Amell stood in front of a backdrop that included his character Oliver Queen aka Green Arrow, alongside Grant Gustin’s Barry Allen aka The Flash, and Melissa Benoist’s Kara Danvers aka Supergirl.
Then, as the reveal came, a Batwoman spotlight was shown shining into the sky. You can check out the visual in the tweet from the CW Upfronts below:
We’ll bring you more news from the Arrowverse as and when we get it!
