Claire King admits her 'Coronation Street' character's pregnancy made her question whether she regrets not having children.
The 52-year-old actress, who plays cougar Erica Holroyd on the ITV soap, has revealed finding out her character had fallen pregnant with Nick Tilsley's baby brought back memories of the hysterectomy she underwent after finding a lump, which meant she could no longer have kids.
Speaking about never having children, she said: "It just never happened for me with my ex. And then I had a hysterectomy five years ago so when this came along it kind of brought back a few thoughts. Could I have/should I have ... But I didn't so move on.
"It's part of being an actress."
The former 'Celebrity Big Brother' contestant - who was previously married to her 'Emmerdale' co-star Peter Amory - admits she was shocked to read that her 49-year-old character was going to find out she's pregnant because of her age.
She told ITV's 'Lorraine': "I was slightly shocked when I got the script. [I was like] is this actually feasible?
"There were a few Twitter comments. But it happens.
"We're in for a treat. The story progresses and it's - are they [Erica and Nick] going to stay together or are they not?"
However, Erica may be set for heartbreak as it's been reported she will suffer a miscarriage and lose her unborn baby.
A source told The Sun newspaper: "Erica's pregnancy was a shock for viewers but her miscarriage will be even more of a shock.
"This was initially seen as a chance for 'Corrie' to explore the issue of older women coping with pregnancy.
"Nobody expected it to end this way. It's one of a series of heartbreaking storylines lined up in the coming months."
