Each year come the same complaints from fans of Britain's Got Talent, who hit out at judges for putting through too many singing (and dancing) acts to the live semi finals.

Despite this, we also see magicians and illusionists, impressionists and ventriloquists and many more weird and wonderful acts throughout the show's broadcast.

However, what can be noted this year is that in the three semi finals to have aired to-date, three singers have topped the public poll and been sent straight through to the grand final, scheduled for Saturday June 7, despite being up against a whole host of different characters and performers.

And so, though we complain, do we care all too much about what we see so long as there's some talent to it?

Darcy Oake came second in the public vote on Monday night's show after performing a fantastic illusion where he transported from a chair. It made him popular but still wasn't enough to shoot him ahead of Collabro - a classical singing boy/man band.

Night two was more of the same. Young singer James Smith took the winner's title whilst dance group The Addict Initiative and singer Jodi Bird also made the top three.

Opera singer Lucy Kay was well-deserving of last night's public vote, and low and behold, a further two dance acts made the top three, and though the one that made it to the final may have been three men dancing in heels, it's not as 'out there' as others we've seen.

So when it all boils down to it, what do the Great British public truly care for? It seems we enjoy a bit of familiarity, and though the talent of those gone through to the final cannot be argued over, what we all tune in for a week on Saturday could make for quite dull viewing if we're in this for more than singers and dancers.

There's still hope. Tonight will see fan favourites electric violinist Lettice Rowbotham and light dancing act Light Balance take to the stage, but they're up against some tough competition in singer Eva Iglesias and rap/hip-hop duo Bars and Melody.

The fourth semi-final starts at 7.30pm tonight - May 29 - on ITV.
