Ashley Taylor Dawson has admitted he had reservations about signing up to Strictly Come Dancing.

The Hollyoaks actor took part in the BBC One dance competition last year, finishing in fifth, but has revealed he never had plans to star in any reality television show because they "scared the hell" out of him.

Asked if he'd consider anymore reality TV in the future, he told BANG Showbiz: "Never say never. I mean, I never wanted to do any reality, it's something I was scared of, to be fair.

"When Strictly rang me it was like, 'Wow, they're ringing me'. It was an honour to be asked and sort of a no brainer to do it but it scared the hell out of me. I didn't want to do it.

"It was a long running joke in my family about doing it. But I thought that with the kids and everything, you've got to do these things and I don't regret one minute of it."

It was a challenge for Ashley, however.

"I just wish the circumstances were different, i.e. Having sleep, not having a baby, not being in work full time."

Wishing the contenders this year some good luck, he refuses to tell who he thinks will take the coveted glitterball trophy home.

"There are a lot of contestants I don't think will win it. I will never say. I'd say there's three people I think will be in the final... It's going to be fun. I can watch it this year with a whole new understanding of the show. I just say good luck to them all."
