Dating in the Dark is set to come back for another series following the huge success of the first series which premiered last September. The must-see innovative show puts matchmaking to the ultimate test, giving single men and women a unique way of finding a prospective partner – in total darkness.
As one of the most talked about entertainment shows of last year, the ground-breaking series received mass attention of the viewers, the media and the television community. The show’s popularity within the industry was reflected in March 2010 when Dating in the Dark won the prestigious Royal Television Society Programme Award for Best Multi-channel Programme 2009.
The series propelled dating shows to a totally different level to explore the old adage of ‘love being blind,’ or that looks are the most important thing when embarking on a new relationship. Dating in the Dark closely examines whether aesthetic attraction is a vital ingredient to achieving a close personal relationship; or is animal magnetism all in the pheromones?
LIVING’s most talked about show plays landlord to love starved singletons who must live in separate apartments within a specially designed house. They only get to physically meet each other in ‘The Dark Room;’ a pitch black dating room where only the viewers get to watch all the action via high-tech infra-red cameras.
The matched or mismatched couples must rely on their wits to help them decide which one of the daters is their prospective other half. At the end of each episode, our lonely hearts chose the person they most want to date; that person will then be revealed in the light for the first time – for only 10 seconds. The reveal could reinforce or temper their initial attraction but if they still want to go ahead with the date they either turn up in the library or call it quits.
