Kirsty Cleaver

Kirsty Cleaver

Kirsty Cleaver was the tiny Scottish girl who might not have been the best at dealing with the general public, but she sure as hell had a smart head on her shoulders. Here she talks about her experience on the show.

Why did you apply for Junior Apprentice?

As a big fan of the Apprentice, I thought it would be great to have the opportunity to be on the show.  I also thought it would be a brilliant way to test myself and give me a taste of the business world whilst being out of my comfort zone.

How did you find your time on the show?

I had the time of my life on the show.  It was the best thing I’ve ever done, and I loved every minute of it!

What did you think of Lord Sugar, Nick and Karren?

I have so much respect for Lord Sugar, Nick and Karren.  Lord Sugar is straight-talking but fair, and genuinely a great guy.  I have always admired Karren as she is known as “The First Lady in football”, and as you know football is a great passion of mine. I also think Nick is one of the coolest guys I have ever met, he is truly a legend!

Who do you think was the strongest candidate?

I think that Tim was overall the strongest candidate as I think he was the best all-round candidate as he can get on with everyone and is both academic and creative.

What were your highlights of the experience?

There were many highlights of my experience.  As a real “foodie” person, I loved going to Tom Aikens restaurant.  Although we lost by a mile and had no idea about art, I really enjoyed the art task, as Tim, Hannah and I really got on well.  Another personal highlight was going in a canal boat in Amsterdam with Tim and Nick Hewer, something I never thought I would ever do!  The whole of the Amsterdam task was fantastic.

How do you think this experience will help you in the future?

Overall I think I have become more confident in my abilities. Even though I am not the most academic person, I have realised that hard work and determination can get me where I want to be.

What are you doing now?

At the moment I am working in my parents’ restaurant until I go to Edinburgh Napier University to study International Business Management in September.

What are your hopes for your future career?

In the future, I hope to work for a big multi-national company in one of the top positions; a sports related job would be my ideal.

What would you to say to any fellow young aspiring business people? Any advice?

To anyone hoping to succeed in business from a young age, I would say don’t be afraid to get your hands dirty and work hard. Stay determined to achieve your goals, and don’t be put off by people telling you that you can’t do something.   You are always going to be good at something, whether it is on an academic level or otherwise, so never give up.

What have you learnt about business from your experience on JA?

I have learnt that you have to co-operate to succeed in business , and that teamwork is always stronger than an individual’s work.
