American Idol At this point in the contest with the final in touching distance no one wants to be the contestant that goes home, although in past seasons the fourth placed has turned out to have the most successful career.
Take Chris Daughtry, he came in fourth place when he was a contestant on season five he went home at the same stage yet went on to sign a record deal almost straight away on a path to super-stardom.

In a repeat of season five season ten's rocker James Durbin was voted off the show and he will no doubt be hoping his career takes the same route to mega-stardom, and Durbin like Daughtry is also better with a band backing him.
Durbin's elimination on Thursday seemed to catch the judges out I suppose they had Haley Reinhart booked for that honour, but I would remind all that we did point out Durbin was only average while everyone else upped their game.
In what turned out to be a tearful departure thanks to the clips showing his journey both to and during 'Idol' which also had Jennifer Lopez uncontrollably sobbing.
Durbin signed off saying “I did so much stuff that’s never been done on this show before,” adding “In my mind, I did what I came here to do and that is to give metal a chance.”
Haley Reinhart this season's gifted yet perennial struggler made the final three, which was more than deserved and in the process gets a hero’s hometown welcome.
Reinhart has at times been the recipient of most of the criticism this season, which strangely singled her out as Lauren Alaina, Scotty McCreery have had none at all.. Reinhart’s struggled with her opening number in each of the last two weeks, but has come back strong both times to earn her place in the competition.
Say what you want of Reinhart but she certainly is a fighter, lifting herself from 'barely surviving' to end in the final three and if she produces to the level of her last two weeks second songs then she is in with a real chance of winning it.
Reinhart was lucky this week being the first told that she was safe left the other three to endure Lady Gaga and Steven Tyler videos plus performances from Enrique Iglesias and Jordin Sparks as she got to relax.
Alaina was the next given a safe pass leaving McCreery with Durbin. Ryan Seacrest again did not say McCreery was the second lowest vote-getter before the country crooner was sent to safety.
So its into the semi final for Scotty McCreery, Lauren Alaina, and Haley Reinhart
