American Idol

American Idol: Not for the first time Casey Abrams found himself in the bottom three but this time he was agian the lowest vote getter and with no judges 'save' card Abrams was heading out of the exit door.

Last time Abrams found himself in the same position it looked as though he was about to suffer a heart attack, this time though looked neither shocked or sick when Ryan Seacrest told him he’d be going home.

He left the audience with a version of “I Put a Spell on You” that if he had performed to this level on wednesday he would not have been looking out of the door, it is safe to say it was one of the best exit number ever.

Abrams walked down to the judges’ and this time instead of kissing Jennifer Lopez he planted one on Steven Tyler so we can assume he had taken his elimination harder than it appeared.

The girls in the front row of the audience were also treated to a kiss before he found his family, then got back onstage and entertained the remaining five “Idol” finalists. Casey looked longingly at Haley Reinhart, his duet partner and maybe his love interest, if you believe the internet rumour machine, adding further to the whispers when he sang the final “you’re mine” line to her.

So who else struggled for votes, alongside Abrams was Scotty McCreery which suggested he was the second-lowest vote-getter - some surprise.

Singers were either declared instantly safe - Reinhart and Durbin, or that they’d find out their fate in a few minutes which was everyone else so no mention of a bottom three placing.

Mentor Jimmy Iovine, was obviously not expecting the result from his taped comments on the remaining “Idols” that were aired before each found out their results.

Lauren Rienhart felt the lackof faith from her mentor as he commented “As an artist, Haley’s problem is that she really doesn’t know who she is yet. My prediction is that the audience is getting wind tonight, and if she goes home tonight it will be because of that,”.

Unsurprisingly Reinhart responded with ... something unairable, the next mentoring session next week is likely to be a touch frosty.

Iovine also compared McCreery to Johnny Cash, said that “Lauren only hears the negative in her critique,” and said Jacob Lusk was on “banana peel status.”

In Cowells day, “Idol” had judges who made those comments not in a season 10 they are not given to opinions in an effort to keep their 'good guy' tags.
