Casey Abrams put in a rendition of Maroon 5’s “Harder to Breathe” and managed to get a kiss from Jennifer Lopez be it on the cheek. Again a rather flat performance which included some uneven vocals unfortunately the most entertaining part was his cheeky Lopez kiss.
Rocker James Durbin broke away from the metal and went with Muse’s “Uprising” — with a modern twist away from his usual style, a more contemporary sound and a memorable performance, It must be said he looked and sounded more like Adam Lambert with less eye makeup as he continues to morph into last years finalist.
Haley Reinhart went with Adele’s “Rolling in the Deep,” a brave choice given Adele’s current place standing in the pop charts. But she did well in illustrating the type of song that best matches her vocals.
In a moment rarer than finding 'hens teeth' was a rare week where the “Idol” finalists faced criticism.when Scotty McCreery found himself on the end of a few negative judgements for his song choice, (LeAnn Rimes’ “Swingin’ ”? Really? Tyler would have liked it if the crooner had boot-scooted a little more, his first critical comment in a month, sorry to build up your hopes....
Alaina performed a version of Sara Evans’ “Born to Fly” was good enough to be tagged the best of the night but in a case of strange bias the judges still told her they were hoping for better performances down the road.
Meanwhile Lusk did a Luther Vandross’ “Dance With My Father,” which was instantly forgettable
Onto the results show and this week America decided that wild-card pick Stefano Langone was to receive the boot.
Langone to be honest has been lucky to survive this long, he has never really in a position to contend, he wasn’t one of the five men with the highest number of votes in the semifinals, and had to survive a sing-off to earn the wild-card spot. Top that with the fact he had been in the bottom three in three of the previous four weeks entering Thursday’s show, so no real surprise.
James Durbin, though was both surprised and shocked at the result and was seen crying during Langone’s farewell montage, and then hurried onstage to pick Langone up and envelop him in a man hug.
Going forward Jacob Lusk, will need to raise his game as he was also among the lowest vote-getters if he is to avoid elimination following his wednesday performance even though he suffered as a result of a technical glitch at the start of his performance.
Haley Reinhart, also seems to be unable to improve any further and knowing how the audiences vote she will need a big performance next week if she is to stay around.
