American Idol - It can be said with utter certainty that Crystal Bowersox's performance of 'People Get Ready' on last nights show raised the bar out of the reach of everyone else. Bowersox closed Tuesdays show on a 'high' with the emotionally charged song after spotting her dad in the audience.
The only other performance to come close and by close we mean two flights below was Lee Dewyze He chose Simon and Garfunkel’s "The Boxer," a difficult song, but took onboard this weeks guest mentor Alicia Keys advice and focused on the lyrics. The result was a truly memorable performance on the night.
After those two who else?
Well nobody Michael Lynche did "Hero," badly which raises the question why the judges saved him a couple of weeks ago as he has not improved at all, but loses them again for picking a Nickelback song.
Casey James show opener was "Don’t Stop" by Fleetwood Mac pretty average safely in his comfort zone as the judges were quick to point out.
Siobhan Magnus sang a great version of "When You Believe," but again recieved confusing feedback, as the judges continued to pick. The problem seems to be the judges don’t really like what she’s doing, but they cannot convey why. Feedback such as, "I still don’t know who you are" from Kara is a complete waste of time, Siobhan needs to ask the judges to explain.
Aaron Kelly struggled with R. Kelly’s "I Believe I Can Fly.", ok, but not memorable while Tim Urban has the judges convinced his fate is entirely out of their control, so his "Better Days" by the Goo Goo Dolls recieved the usual shrug of the shoulders with a lets move on, though Ellen DeGeneres did liken him to the "soup of the day" while Simon said Urban wasn’t that great but he was better than he was a few weeks ago.
Unfortunately we never got to find out if there would be any bitterness following that "betrayed by Seacrest" text message from Bowersox.
The show moves onto "Idol Gives Back" on Wednesday, in which Ryan gets to be where Ryan thinks he should be ' centre stage' with the limelight hogging judges and contestants relegated to bit parts. Seacrest has two hours asking money before he sends home one luckless contestant. Which one I go for Urban though the judges comments may have put pressure on Siobhan.
