Crystal Bowersox

Crystal Bowersox

With that famous phrase 'Ladies and gentleman - this is (pause) American Idol' Ryan Seacrest started Tuesdays show as the last eight girls vied for the public vote.

Crystal Bowersox turned in an almost perfect performance recovering from last weeks slightly wobbly effort. She was back to her usual  self with her version of Tracy Chapman’s "Give Me One Reason," it was strong confident and the song choice suited Bowersox's style and as the judges pointed out she knows who she is as an artist and performs to those strengths.. The top performer of the night in my opinion..

Lilly Scott another strong contender also performed on the money, though still not quite 'there' she does have the confidence and she’s consistently good every week, if she ups her level Lilly will be in the final mix.

Apart from Bowersox and Scott no one else really put in an outstanding performance that would suggest they will make the final six girls to go into the final twelve apart from perhaps Siobhan Magnus who improved the most from last week.

Anyway, the other singers who stepped up were the ones who had the farthest to go, with the rest dropping off the pace to make things very uncomfortable for at least four during Thursday’s results show.

Katie Stevens once again was out of her depth and continued to struggle, although she’s still likely to get enough votes to make the finals. Unlike Bowersox the teenager is still hasn't found takes the judges advice quite literally - unfortunately the judges all give  conflicting views which can only serve to further confuse the girl.

Last weeks advice was pick a younger song - result an angst version of Kelly Clarkesons "Breakaway" by Kelly Clarkson. The sad thing is she does have talent and with the right songs and arrangements she could easily become one of the main contenders.

Didi Benami's guitar made an appearance, a good choice as her performance was more reassured this week, maybe because she was able to focus on her guitar playing. The judges all loved her.

Simon commented, "Head and shoulders over anything else we've heard tonight ... the 'wow' moment was the whole performance." sorry Simon but not this time - as he often says bout his fellow judges , 'you must have been listening to a different performance than me' this time he must have been.

So who is in trouble Didi is definitely a possibility. Lacey Brown fought back from last weeks bad vibes and turned in her best performance of the season, which pleased the judges, and she has a likable factor so lets see how the public take to her.

Katelyn Epperly sang "I Feel the Earth Move," from behind her keyboard, she didn't walk the stage like she should have, sorry the earth did not even tremble - flat and dull.

Paige Miles sang "Smile" and managed to wipe the smile from most peoples faces, Simon's comments re best left out but they were not good - these two look the most vulnerable

Finally from the judges point of view, well from Simon Cowbell's point of view Crystal Bowersox is the one to beat at this stage
