American Idol - On Tuesday each of the three finalists performed twice, one song of their own choosing and one selected by the judges.
Casey James opened the show with his choice "OK, It’s Alright With Me" by Eric Hutchinson, giving a strong performance. He looked a credible performer, producing a good all round job with a song that most of the audience would find unfamiliar. For his second performance Judges Randy Jackson and Kara DioGuardi though did James no favours by choosing John Mayer’s "Daughters"
Crystal Bowersox’s choice of "Come to My Window" by Melissa Etheridge, failed to impress the judges though Simon Cowell countered some of the views by saying, "What I like about you and what you did tonight is that from the very first day we met you to now in the semifinal, you haven't compromised yourself as an artist. I have a lot of respect for you for that. You came out here and decided to do what is you."
Bowersox’s second song, Ellen DeGeneres had her sing Paul McCartney’s "Maybe I'm Amazed," this time she received much more praise from the panel.
Lee Dewyze, chose Lynyrd Skynard’s "Simple Man" which proved a great choice as it was a song that played to Dewyze’s strengths
For the judges, Simon Cowell had Dewyze sing "Hallelujah." which at first seemed a strange choice considering how often this has been used on Idol, but the arrangement and the 'Dewzye' spin was absolutely on the money. The performance by Dewyze made Cowell demonstrated just how good at choosing the right material Cowell is.
So on to Wednesdays results show unsurprisingly the audience vote confirmed the best two this season will contest the final as Crystal Bowersox and Lee Dewyze were confirmed as the winners
Bowersox has been strong from the first show ad to his credit Dewyze has grown over the past month to join her as a potential winner.. What will be interesting in the final is just how the audiences vote on the two completely contrasting styles. The the indie uncompromising coffeehouse artist and the DIY store rock singer.
Casey James didn't seem surprised by his exit, James when he looks back on the reasons for his exit may feel he did not receive too much good advice from the judges but in fairness he was often his own worst enemy. Picking "OK, It’s Alright With Me" by Eric Hutchinson as his song choice was not good but when compounded by judges Randy Jackson and Kara DioGuardi choice of Mayer’s "Daughters," then it was game over unfortunately.
It was always going to be hard opening the show but the production team sent him on stage with just his guitar and a simple melody, while Dewyze got the background singers, so who got the best deal in that.
