Ah, after a short pick up in pace we're now back to wallowing in individual character's bliss, annoyance, anger, confusion etc., and the show is definitely not better for it. It's become increasingly apparent that while the first two seasons of Orange is the New Black were better off for being released in one lump, the third would have fared better with weekly releases. Here's your warning so the series doesn't burn out for you as it has done for me - do NOT binge watch season three. There's not enough to keep you going.
Memorable storylines throughout episodes seven to ten include Alex's obsession with Lolly and vice versa, but when we find out what Lolly is really up to it's a bit of a let down.
Doggett's flashbacks are some of the most interesting in the season, but when we end things with her being raped by one of the new officers it leaves us feeling deflated. We wanted drama but not like this. Pennsatucky may have tried to kill Piper back in the season one finale, but now viewers have grown to enjoy her presence and really root for her. That single solitary tear that rolled down her face hit us deep.
Do I care for Norma's new religion? Not really. Would the Judy King storyline be more interesting if she was coming to Litchfield? Absolutely - this is something I expect will change in the future. We have to see her integrate herself amongst these women, otherwise her story arc will have been a complete waste of time.
I can't bring myself to really be cruel to this show but I am continuing to lose interest, at a faster rate than before. I never thought the Alex and Piper storylines would be my favourite, but that's where we're at.
The acting is stellar, but the writing for me is off. With just three episodes left, something special needs to happen to bring this back from the abyss.
