NOTE: Spoilers
Orange is the New Black season 2 has finally hit Netflix, with all 13 episodes uploaded at once, and after watching the first six, we've decided to take a look at some of the backstories discussed and explored during those episodes.
Episode 1 - Piper and Alex
Discovering that Piper saw her father cheating as a child and upon informing her mother was shunned and sent away, we learn a little bit more about why Piper may have some issues with commitment.
Her past with Alex is also delved a little deeper into as we see more from the good times the two spent in one another's arms.
Episode 2 - Taystee and Vee
It's strange to see Taystee poached from such a young age into the life of drugs, and with the introduction of Vee who says she's a friend but makes it a little difficult to believe, we see some of the challenges she's faced and reasons behind her incarceration.
There's also a hint at love - 'family' or romantic it isn't explored - but it's the closest thing we've seen so far for Taystee, unfortunately ending in tragedy.
Episode 3 - Crazy Eyes
Suzanne has always been quick to ignite and jump off the deep end. Her temper and unwillingness to believe in herself has led her into some upsetting, strange and hard-to-watch situations, constantly excluded which we now see echoed in the way her fellow inmates treat her.
She will remain a fan-favourite as we continue to sympathise with her, and it's worth noting how distressing her new alliance with Vee could turn out to be. Is she simply being played once more, and how will she react when she finds out?
Episode 4 - Lorna
Perhaps the most shocking reveal so far this season is that of Lorna being a stalker. She met Christopher in the middle of one of her mail fraud scams, and they went on one date together. That is where things stopped.
He cut off contact with her from this point but she continued to harrass him and even planted an explosive under the car he and his new flame were going to be driving away in. Despite this she still manages to be empathised with - we want her to get the help that she sincerely needs, but will she be able to, or will she be pushed to breaking point?
Episode 5 - Gloria
Buying food stamps and charging the government for things she didn't actually sell, Gloria got on the wrong side of the wrong person and was ratted on to the police.
A man she once loved beat her, and when he robs the store to take his revenge after their relationship comes to an end, he got stuck in the room, burning to death along with all of the cash inside.
Episode 6 - Poussey
She found love once, but because of the homophobic father of the woman she was dating she and her own father were forced to leave the country despite her near-attempt at murdering the man sending them away.
We learn here that Poussey is now able to easily let close relationships quickly die out as a defence mechanism, and as one of her friendships is put to the test, will she let her guard down for one minute too many?
