This year (2022) is shaping up to be a great one for TV, with shows like Under the Banner of Heaven and Swimming with Sharks on their way to entertain us all. As well as these exciting titles, BritBox has an intriguing offer, too...
The Dry is an upcoming Irish comedy-drama that will be heading to BritBox later this year.
From the producers of Normal People, a romantic series that aired in 2020, The Dry highlights and celebrates the happiness that resides within chaos, as well as the absurdities that can wrap around family life.
The series is set to focus on recovery, family drama and complications, as well as depicting how difficult it can be to stay on the path you set for yourself.
When Shiv Sheridan (Roisin Gallagher) returns to Dublin after spending years partying in London, she is sober and full of positive intentions. However, being back with her family makes staying on ‘the dry’ a lot harder than she thought.
As Shiv attempts to traverse this new and challenging chapter of her life, she isn’t alone, as her family must also help her deal with her newfound sobriety.
While her family wish to help Shiv, they all have their own personal problems, making it somewhat difficult to help someone else when they are facing inward battles of their own.
As well as Gallagher, The Dry stars Pom Boyd (Vanity Fair, Frank of Ireland), Siobhán Cullen (Origin, The Limehouse Golem), Moe Dunford (The Dig, Vikings), newcomer Adam Richardson, and BAFTA and Academy Award nominee Ciarán Hinds (Game of Thrones, Belfast).
The series will consist of eight episodes and is sure to grab the attention of many.
The Dry will release on the small screen sometime this Spring.
This series, despite the limited information we have on it, seems to be something that will be very popular upon release.
Many people, especially in lockdown, faced their own personal problems, and The Dry appears to be a series that will delve into this theme through the show’s characters.
Most of us love watching something relatable, and this forthcoming series may be a wonderful thing to show us that recovery might not be easy, but it is worth it.
