Apple TV+ has dropped the trailer for their highly-anticipated upcoming series Shining Girls, starring Emmy Award-winning actress Elisabeth Moss (The Handmaid's Tale), who also serves as executive producer.
Based on the best-selling novel of the same name by Lauren Beukes, the TV show follows Kirby Mazrachi (Moss), who works as a Chicago newspaper archivist, despite past ambitions to embark on a career in journalism, which were halted by a traumatic assault.
Upon realising that the details in a recent murder mirror some of what happened in her own case, Kirby partners with seasoned reporter Dan Velazquez (Wagner Moura, Narcos), to uncover her attacker's identity. He isn't without his own troubles, however.
Discovering that a whole series of cold cases are inextricably linked, the pair's personal traumas and, the blurred reality experienced by Kirby, allow the assailant to remain one step ahead.
Alongside the aforementioned stars, Phillipa Soo, Amy Brenneman and Jamie Bell also star.
Leonardo DiCaprio, Jennifer Davisson and Michael Hampton executive produce through Appian Way, with Moss and Lindsey McManus executive producing through Love and Squalor Pictures. Michelle MacLaren executive produces with Rebecca Hobbs for MacLaren Entertainment, with Daina Reid, Alan Page Arriaga and original author Lauren Beukes also executive producing.
Moss also directs, alongside MacLaren and Reid.
Apple TV+ has become synonymous with compelling drama and, it appears as though Shining Girls will be no different.
Anyone who has seen Moss in The Handmaid's Tale or the gripping movie The Invisible Man knows that she is more than capable of pulling off an emotional, raw and gritty performance, which it appears she'll be called upon to do here.
Combining that with the tension we know Wagner Moura will also be able to bring to proceedings, and we've got the recipe for a must-see series that will have everybody talking.
Shining Girls will make its global premiere on Friday, April 29th, 2022, exclusive to Apple TV+.
