National City is about to welcome a pair of new faces, with DC Comics characters Indigo and Master Jailer set to debut on Supergirl, with Laura Vandervoort and Jeff Branson slipping into the roles respectively.
Fans of the superhero universe may remember Vandervoort from Smallville, where she played Kara/Supergirl on the long-running series. She'll appear in multiple episodes of the season as Indigo, "a living, strong-willed supercomputer that was sentenced to Fort Rozz after turning against the people of Krypton."
Branson meanwhile is known for his role in The Young and the Restless, and now takes on Master Jailer. Producers say: "As the forceful and unrelenting jail guard on Fort Rozz, Master Jailer showed no mercy. Now on Earth, he is hellbent on catching all of the Fort Rozz escapees and brutally bringing them to justice."
The casting announcement was made on Monday (January 11) during Warner Bros. Television's Supergirl session at the Television Critics Association Winter 2016 Press Tour on the Warner Bros. Studios lot.
Supergirl is the work of Berlanti Productions in association with Warner Bros. Television. It airs Mondays in the US at 8/7c on CBS, and broadcasts in the UK on Sky1.
Melissa Benoist stars in the titular role, with Mehcad Brooks, Chyler Leigh, Jeremy Jordan, David Harewood and Calista Flockhart joining her in the main cast.
Greg Berlanti, Ali Adler, Andrew Kreisberg and Sarah Schechter are executive producers on the series.
