Shaun Williamson would like to return to 'EastEnders' as a ghost to haunt Janine.
The 57-year-old actor played hapless Barry Evans in the BBC One soap for almost 10 years from December 1994 to January 2004.
He left the show after Barry was killed by his scheming wife Janine Butcher after their wedding in Scotland, with the spiteful spouse - played by Charlie Brooks - pushing her husband over a cliff edge to meet his death.
Janine then returned to Albert Square with Barry's ashes in an urn after hastily arranging his funeral so she could inherit his money.
Soaps are famous for bringing characters back from the grave with Cindy Beale (Michelle Collins) making a sensational return to Walford after 25 years presumed dead.
But Shaun would like to come back as a spectre who takes revenge on his wife Janine - who left 'EastEnders' for a third time in the 2022 Christmas special after being saved from drowning by her husband Mick Carter (Danny Dyer).
When asked if he'd be interested in a return to the show, he replied: "I’d like to be a ghost and haunt Janine for four episodes."
If the writers did find a way to resurrect Barry then Shaun would always be up for a return to 'EastEnders', and he insists they are so talented and creative they can always find a plot device to make it plausible.
Speaking to BANG Showbiz, he said: "It could be that he’s been a shepherd, living in Scotland for 20 years with a big beard down to his knees. It would take some doing.
“I think the writers are so good, I’ve got all the time in the world for the writers. I think every time it happens everyone is like, ‘Come on, really?’ But then they write them back in with such a good storyline that people forget and go, ‘Oh, we’ll just go with it.’ That’s all that matters, really."
Shaun is currently very busy preparing to play Captain Hook in pantomime 'Hook - The High Flying Adventures of Peter Pan' which is running at Portsmouth's Kings Theatre, a role he relishes.
And the 'Extras' star has just teamed up with former 'X Factor' contestant Honey G to lead the Not So Silent Choir to raise awareness of Deliveroo's drive to raise money for food bank charity the Trussell Trust.
The choir appear in a tongue-in-cheek mockumentary style film which sees passers-by covering their ears and turning away in dismay as they endure the ensemble’s chaotic renditions of 'Deck the Halls' and 'Jingle Bells'.
The carollers are singing to raise vital funds for the Trussell Trust, via Deliveroo’s in-app round up feature, which allows customers to round up the price of their takeaway with that money going to the charity, which will distribute more than a million emergency food parcels between December and February.
Customers can find the in-app charity round up feature on the Deliveroo app as they check out any order, with the option to round up to the nearest pound or make a set donation amount of their choice.
Shaun admits it was great fun teaming up with rapper Honey G - real name Anna Gilford - even though some houses they knocked on were not please to see the two celebs and their choir.
He said: "It is a lot of fun, but it’s for a very serious cause. The Trussell Trust are a brilliant charity, they have 1,300 food banks all over the country. It’s an appalling situation, but I won’t get political.
"What we thought we would do this Christmas is raise a bit of awareness by doing a funny campaign. The Not So Silent Night Choir, myself and the queen of British rap Honey G we got hold of a really good choir of nice people and turned them into something quite shocking.
"The idea is that choir singers knock on people’s doors and people sometimes hide because they get a bit embarrassed and they don’t want to join in or they just don’t want to part with their hard earned money. We’ve made ourselves so bad that they could only hide for so long, we’re so dreadful that they had to come out and give us a quick tip.
"Honey G is absolutely great, we clicked straight away and she was just great fun and really mucked in. We went round people’s houses, surprising them in quite a large way. We got doors slammed in our faces, some people just grimaced or looked bemused, some children joined in, a couple of people gave us a couple of quid to go away."
Thanks to the generous customers who have rounded up their Deliveroo order for the Trussell Trust since 2022, Deliveroo has been able to provide nearly three million meals to date, plus support for vital services provided by the charity to help lift people out of poverty.
The town that raises the most money for the Trussell Trust via Deliveroo’s in-app round up this year up until November 30 will be treated to a surprise performance from a soon-to-be-revealed British singer.
