'The Chase' star Shaun Wallace struggles to answer questions about TV.
The 63-year-old quizzer has served as a chaser on the ITV1 gameshow since its inception in 2009 but revealed that he always trips up on questions about soap operas and once failed to give a basic detail about Marge Simpson from the long-running cartoon series 'The Simpsons'.
Speaking to Josie Gibson and Dermot O’Leary on ITV's ‘This Morning’, Shaun said: "Everyone has an Achilles heel, mine is soaps.
“I was one question away from winning a Chase episode and they asked me what colour is Marge Simpson's hair. If you've never watched The Simpsons like I've never watched The Simpsons, you're not going to know.”
Fellow Chaser Anne Hegerty pointed out: "That's really not a soap question, Shaun”, to which the former barrister replied: “Soaps, animation, whatever. Same thing to me. I got such a backlash from social media, 'You should be sacked, you're rubbish,' but questions are only easy if you know the answers.”
Anne agreed and admitted that the chasers frequently receive hate comments, to which they “all just ignore them”.
Shaun added: "I'll always stop and take photographs or I sometimes send photos to mothers and grandmothers. Because for me I'm always grateful of the fact that the public make me famous and it's one way of saying thank you."
The chaser then revealed that Shaun Williamson, who played Barry on ‘Eastenders’ was “the best quizzer on the circuit”, closely followed by Jonathan Ross.
He said: “I've been up against some really good celebrities - Jonathan Ross is one of them.
"I'll tell you who else is good, his brother Paul - an excellent quizzer. But the best celebrity quizzer on the circuit has got to be Shaun Williams.
“He takes part in a British quiz league. He’s that good.”
