Helen Glover is “open” to a career on television.
The 37-year-old rower is best known for having won gold at the 2012 London Olympics along with Heather Stanning but admitted that she is keen to take any opportunities in the world of TV, but is unsure if she would ever take part in ‘I’m A Celebrity…Get Me Out Of Here!’
She exclusively told BANG Showbiz: "I don’t know if I’d go into the jungle! But what I do love is that there are amazing, wacky wild opportunities that get thrown up through sport that I just never thought would come my way and so yeah, I'm more than open to anything that kind of comes my way.
“You only live once and why not take those opportunities that I never thought I’d have? So yeah, I think that I'm definitely keen to see what kind of opportunities can come after rowing."
Helen is currently training to compete in Paris 2024 and is heading up a search to find a group of five children to become mascots for the next Olympics and explained that the search is a “really cool” idea as she recalled being young and watching the global sporting event herself.
She said: “I think it's really cool. It's something that that's actually never been done before by Team GB. We've never had mascots.
“So, I think choosing five kids really shows that actually a really big part of the Olympics and of being Olympian is looking at that younger generation and trying to instill that excitement and those Olympic values.
“And I remember when I was little watching Olympians and wanting to be part of the Olympics, and I never thought I would do it as an athlete. I think it's quite cool that five kids could kind of represent that youth the kind of people that we want to kind of bring in and be excited by the Olympic Games.”
It’s one year until Paris 2024!
And for the first time ever, Team GB is providing children with a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to become the official mascots, getting never seen before access to the team.
It’s super easy to get involved…Parents or guardians can nominate their child to become a mascot by entering their details at www.teamgb.com/mascot.
As long as they are aged 5-11, anyone can get involved -from budding athletes, Team GB fans, or those looking for an extraordinary experience in the run up to Paris 2024.
