The 31-year-old pop star – who starred in Channel 4 drama ‘It’s a Sin’, which was penned by ‘Doctor Who’ showrunner Russell T Davies – has categorically ruled out taking over the title role from Jodie Whittaker in the hit BBC sci-fi series.
He said: “I definitely am not Doctor Who, and I’m not going to be Doctor Who. It’s not happening! I can tell you I’m definitely not doing it.”
Despite claiming that he will not be a part of ‘Doctor Who’, the ‘Starstruck’ hitmaker hinted that he could return to acting following his star turn in ‘It’s a Sin’, but will wait until the “right thing” comes along.
He said: “I think I will [act again]. When it’s something I want to do. It’s such a bizarre job. And I feel like I left it behind for a reason, to make music and do Years & Years. ‘It’s a Sin’ reminded me of how incredible that circus can be, so it would be fun to do again. But I’m just going to wait until it’s the right thing. Or make my own thing, at some point. Like a queer horror thing. I love horror. Something in the vein of ‘Twin Peaks’ or ‘Mulholland Drive.'"
Prior to being cast in the gritty series, Olly had not acted for six years but decided to take on the project because he had “never read something like it” when he got the script.
The former 'Skins' star added to The Guardian’s Saturday magazine: “I just thought, ‘What have I got myself in for, thinking I could do this?’ I was doing well as an actor, but I had never read something like It’s a Sin. You could wait your whole career and not get something as good as that, so I was like, ‘I have to do it, and do a good job.’”
