The CW's The Flash is gearing up for its second season, and big fans of the DC comic book universe should be excited at the news that Michael Ironside has been cast in the show in the role of Captain Cold AKA Leonard Snart's (Wentworth Miller) father.
Lewis Snart is the estranged Snart family patriarch who has a history in the Geoff Johns 'Rogues' comic book arc of abusing his children, Leonard and Lisa Snart AKA Golden Glider (Peyton List).
It's been revealed that Lewis Snart is going to make a return to Central City following a stint in prison, with plans that could put both of his kids in danger. Not much other than the time when Leonard and Lisa were children has been explored in the DC comics series, so it will be nice to see a brand new side to the Snart family lore.
Ironside guest stars in the third episode of season two titled 'Family of Rogues', with the show heavily rumoured to now be delving into the mythos of DC Comics' Earth-Two.
The Canadian-born talent should be able to handle playing the Snart mob boss perfectly after appearing in franchises such as Top Gun, Total Recall and more, as well as doing voice-over work in animated versions of DC comics properties, including Batman, Superman and Justice League.
It was also revealed in the past few days that Teddy Sears joins the cast as Jay Garrick, with Shantel VanSanten stepping into the role of Patty Spivot and an unannounced actor bringing a new villain - Professor Zoom - to the screen.
The Flash returns for its second season in America on The CW, starting October 6.
