The DCEU (DC Extended Universe) is in somewhat of a complex state at the moment; fans are excited yet nervous about what the studio will do with its next batch of films.
DC’s line-up for this year (2022) and next year (2023) seem pretty decent, however, with Black Adam, The Flash and Shazam 2: Fury of the Gods all set to release before the end of 2023, fans are looking forward to the DCEU’s plans once again.
One of the releases, set for this year, is Batgirl, with Leslie Grace in the titular role. The feature has been in development for years, with Joss Whedon being set to direct and write the movie all the way back in 2017.
However, since then, the film has changed its director, bringing two names on board in the form of Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah (Bad Boys for Life). The script had been handled by Christina Hodson, the writer behind Birds of Prey (2020), and upcoming feature, The Flash.
Plot details for Batgirl are still being kept under lock and key for now, but it is suspected that the movie will land on HBO Max later this year.
Grace recently starred in In the Heights as Nina Rosario, and is furthering her acting career by playing a somewhat iconic role as Batgirl.
The newcomer will be joined by J.K. Simmons (Spider-Man trilogy) and Michael Keaton (Spider-Man: Homecoming), who will reprise their roles as Commissioner Jim Gordon, and Bruce Wayne/Batman, respectively.
Production on Batgirl only begin in November last year, and now, four months later, it seems that the cast and crew’s journey is coming to an end.
Grace posted a photo via her Instagram account yesterday (March 27th, 2022), stating that”it’s our last week of shooting #batgirl and im getting emotionalllll’.

The post also contained more images as well as videos of the final days of production. The actress also shared some kind words about Scotland, where the movie was filmed to create Gotham.
Additionally, many fans are excited to see that Brendan Fraser, who played Robotman/Cliff Steele on DC series Doom Patrol, however this is his first entry into the DCEU.
While there isn’t an official release date for Batgirl yet, there is speculation that the DCEU movie will land on HBO Max this December; however, with certain projects in the DCEU being moved back, Grace’s superhero debut may have to wait.
