None of the 'Emmerdale' cast knew King Charles had filmed a special 50th birthday message for the soap, until it aired at the National Television Awards.
Mark Charnock, who scooped the Serial Drama Performance prize at Thursday night's (13.10.22) ceremony at London's OVO Arena Wembley, admitted he thought the video was going to be of a royal impressionist when NTAs host Joel Dommett introduced the special clip.
He said: "None of us knew. I imagine the team upstairs might have known, but we had no idea. So when Joel Dommett said, 'Now we've got a VT from ...' I thought it would be an impressionist.
"It was so nice what he said. I've just decided he watches 'Emmerdale'. Every episode."
Mark was delighted to scoop a prize, but admits he has "no recollection" of what he said during his acceptance speech.
He said: "I have absolutely no recollection of what I said at all. I don't even know if I spoke in the English language, it was just all these extra words that were in a recycle bin. If it was in order I feel that was a win in itself.
"I was genuinely chuffed to be nominated. When they said my name out it was like, 'What?' "
Emmerdale's 50th anniversary special episode will air on Sunday (16.10.22), 50 years to the day since the first-ever episode, and Mark has teased fans it is "really moving" and "so dramatic".
Speaking on 'Good Morning Britain', he added: "We went to a viewing and I sat back and thought, 'I'm going to watch my mates now,' and the biggest compliment I can give to that episode is I just forgot. It was one of the best hours of 'Emmerdale' I've ever seen. It's so dramatic. It's really moving. I can't tell you how strongly I feel about that episode.
"There are some storylines that come to a head in that episode. It's so brilliantly shot, it's really cinematic."
