Nick Miles says ‘Emmerdale’ has been snowed off

Nick Miles, 60, who plays Jimmy King on the long-running ITV1 soap, announced filming was on hold “due to the snow” that is causing havoc for millions of people across the UK – and joked the cast and crew had decided to go sledging instead of shooting.

He tweeted on Friday (10.03.23) morning: “Filming on ‘Emmerdale’ cancelled today due to the snow. Look out Leeds. We’re all going sledging!”

It comes as Storm Larisa is set to bring “treacherous conditions” to the UK, with 50mph winds and up to 40cm of snow forecast in some areas.

Meanwhile, an ‘Emmerdale’ episode bosses dubbed the “most powerful ever” will air on Friday.

It focuses on men’s mental health amid the storyline of Dominic Brunt’s character Paddy Kirk’s suicidal thoughts after his break-up from Chas Dingle.

The hour-long special will see Paddy’s best mate Marlon Dingle (played by Mark Charnock) hold a lock-in at their local for a “simple” heartfelt chat between lads in an episode that came about in collaboration with mental health charities such as Samaritans and Andy’s Man Club.

Producer Laura Shaw said: "There is a whole episode where our men just talk.

"There are no stunts, there are no affairs, there are no big explosive reveals, it’s just men talking about whatever they are feeling or thinking.

"It’s as simple as that. But when you watch it, it’s probably one of the most powerful episodes we’ve ever done."

Laura - who has been with the soap since 2007 - continued: "We know accurate on-screen portrayals help people with their own experiences and help them speak out without fear of judgement.

"If we help just one person who is struggling to reach out and start talking, well, we’ve done our job."

Dominic Brunt has said he felt a “huge sense of responsibility” leading the episode, with the 52-year-old adding: "I felt a huge sense of responsibility on my shoulders to try and get it right.

"Not only has it been inspiration but it's been pitch black dark and it's made me appreciate what I have.

"Speaking to people where life has hit them so hard it's been really shocking and everyone who has come through the other side of it has said, ‘I’m glad I spoke to someone’.”
